Treatment of fractured backs requires communication with your veterinarian. If the spinal cord is determined to still be viable, stabilization either internally with plates and screws directly at the fracture location or externally with a splint or both is required. Minor dislocations between the vertebrae can lead to catastrophic injury with further dislocation if not immediately recognized and treated appropriately.
K9 Carts can extend the injury if the spine is not properly stabilized. A two-wheeled or four-wheeled K9 Cart may be helpful in healed back fractures to support the disabled limbs. |
