An embolism is a blood clot that has traveled in the vascular system and stops blood flow. Saddle thrombosis or aortic thromboembolism is a unique condition affecting cats where a clot obstructs blood flow to the rear limbs. Diagnosis is often made on based on clinical signs - loss of rear limb function, loss of pulses in the hind limbs and/or cool limbs. Medical, surgical, and minimally invasive techniques can be used to treat this condition. Some cats will recover slowly over time with or without surgery.
A Two-wheeled K9 Cart is indicated for cats with rear limb paresis or paralysis that has persisted for a period of time after diagnosis of saddle thrombosis. |
